about : unlikely realms
about the artist:
Martin Herbert is a full time professional artist living and working
in Mid Wales, UK. He produces figurative and abstract work in both
traditional and digital media. Figurative work, biographical and other
information can be found at the website Spirit
Visions.
about the work:
The work on this website is not produced
by computers. It is produced by the artist using computer
software, primarily 'XenoDream', an innovative 3D fractal software
package from publishers Sterling
Thornton. I have created many images which seem to represent exotic
flora or miscroscopic sea creatures, since fractal geometry often
echoes nature in these areas, and have used colour rendering techniques
reminiscent of hand tinted lithographic botanical illustrations from
the 19th Century. The results are pictures of life-forms which do
not exist here and now, but may exist somewhere and somewhen.
about the prints:
The term 'giclee' refers to a high quality
fine art printing process using inkjet technology. It differs from
normal computer inkjet printing in three respects - the use of acid-free
heavy fine art paper stock, the use of pigment based inks with extremely
high resistance to fading, and the use of high resolution print heads.
The prints in this series are rendered at 300dpi (dots per inch) and
printed at 1400dpi using Epson Ultrachrome inks with an expected lightfastness
of over 75 years, as good as or better than traditional lithographic
printing. All prints are produced in a signed and numbered limited
edition of 25 copies only. The printed are of all works is 23.5 inches
(approx. 60 cm) square.
buying artwork on-line:
There are certain disadvantages to viewing
artwork via the internet - the main one being that you are normally
only seeing a small low-resolution version of the actual picture.
I have tried to alleviate this by providing details of the work at
the actual print size - click on any main image to see the detail.
Clicking on the 'Buy' button allows payment via secure PayPal credit
card processing. (Note: you do not have to be a PayPal member to pay
using credit card through their facilities). Prints are dispatched
within a few days, wrapped and rolled in a strong mailing tube. Any
artwork may be returned undamaged for a no quibble refund within 14
days of delivery if you are not satisfied with your purchase in any
way. Please email via the contact page for the return address.
